Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Civils Notes. By using the site, reading a note, or practising a question, you agree to them.

Effective 23 August 2026

Who operates this site

Civils Notes ("we", "us", "the site") is currently operated as an individual proprietorship under the trading name CivilsNotes, based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, pending formal company registration. Once registration is complete, this section will be updated with the registered entity's name and details. Until then, CivilsNotes is the point of contact for all matters covered by these terms.

What the service is

Civils Notes is a UPSC Prelims (GS Paper 1) preparation platform. We publish study notes, a bank of past-year practice questions with explanations, and a daily current affairs digest with a short quiz. Study notes and a portion of the practice bank and daily quiz are free to read without an account. A paid membership unlocks the remainder of the practice bank and related member features. Full details of what a membership includes are shown on the pricing or checkout page at the time of purchase, since the exact scope of membership may change as the product grows.

Civils Notes is not affiliated with the UPSC, or with any author, publisher, or coaching institute whose reference books we mention (Laxmikanth, Spectrum, Ramesh Singh, GC Leong, Shankar IAS, Nitin Singhania, NCERT, and others). Reference-book names are used only to tell you where a concept lives in material you may already own, never as an endorsement or partnership. See our About and methodology page for how notes and questions are built and verified.

Accounts

An account is not required to read notes or practise the free question set. Signing in (by email magic link, no password) lets your progress, streak, and saved questions sync across devices, and is required to purchase and use a membership. You are responsible for keeping access to the email address you sign in with, and for all activity under your account. One account is for one person; do not share your sign-in access with anyone else, including a paid membership.

Membership and payment

  • A membership is granted for the period stated at the time of purchase, on the pricing or checkout page. Prices are shown in Indian Rupees (INR) and are inclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.
  • Payments are processed by a third-party payment gateway (Razorpay). We do not store your card, UPI, or bank details on our own servers.
  • Refunds and cancellations are governed by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.
  • We may suspend or terminate a membership, without refund, if we reasonably believe it is being used in a way that breaches the "Acceptable use" section below.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Share, resell, sublicense, or publish member-only content (question answers and explanations behind the membership gate) to anyone without an active membership of their own.
  • Scrape, mass-download, or use automated tools to extract notes or questions from the site, other than normal browsing and search-engine indexing.
  • Attempt to bypass the membership gate, authentication, or any access control on the site.
  • Use the site in any way that disrupts its operation or another user's access to it.

Intellectual property

The study notes, practice question stems, options, and explanations published on Civils Notes are our own original work, even where a question is written to test the same fact as a real UPSC Prelims question. This content, and the Civils Notes name and branding, belong to us. You may read and use the site for your personal exam preparation; you may not reproduce, republish, or redistribute member-only content without our written permission.

Underlying facts, historical events, and matters of public record are not owned by anyone and nothing here restricts you from studying the same facts elsewhere.

No guarantee of exam outcomes

Civils Notes is a study aid. We take real care over accuracy, every practice question is checked against the official UPSC answer key before publishing, and every current affairs item is sourced, but we do not guarantee that our content is complete, error-free, or sufficient on its own to clear any stage of the UPSC exam. Found something wrong? Every note and question has a "Report an issue" link, and we treat every report seriously; see our About and methodology page.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Civils Notes and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, including exam performance or outcomes. Our total liability for any claim relating to a paid membership is limited to the amount you paid for that membership.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product grows. We will update the effective date above when we do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising from them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka.
