About

About Civils Notes, and how we verify what we publish

Civils Notes is a UPSC Prelims (GS Paper 1) practice platform built around one idea: every question and every note should be checked against something real, and should say exactly where it comes from.

What this site is

We publish two kinds of content. Read is a set of study notes, each mapped to the exact chapter of the reference book most aspirants already use for that subject, Laxmikanth for Polity, Spectrum and NCERT for History, GC Leong for Geography, Ramesh Singh for Economy, Shankar IAS for Environment, and Nitin Singhania for Art and Culture. Practice is our growing bank of past-year questions, one per real UPSC Prelims question, each with a full explanation and its own reference-book chapter.

How practice questions are built

Every past-year question on this site is original, written to test the same underlying fact as the real exam question, never copied verbatim from the official paper. Before a single question goes live, its answer is checked against the official UPSC answer key for that year. We treat the official key as the only source of truth for what the correct option is, not a coaching site's summary of it.

Each PYQ year hub states the exact exam date and booklet series its numbering follows, taken directly from the official question paper, not assumed or carried over from a previous year.

How daily current affairs are sourced

Every item in Daily Current Affairs links directly to the source it was drawn from, visible on the item itself, never hidden in a footnote. We draw only from official releases (ministries, PIB, regulators) and established mainstream publications, never from other UPSC coaching or test-prep sites. If a claim in an item cannot be traced back to that one cited source, it gets trimmed or corrected before publishing, not shipped as background colour.

What we get wrong, and how to tell us

We would rather hear about a mistake than have a reader quietly lose trust in a note. Every study note carries a "Report an inaccuracy" link that goes straight to us, and we treat every one of those reports as worth a real look, not a form-letter reply. Building a UPSC prep resource is an ongoing process, we are a young platform still expanding our coverage year over year, and we would rather be transparent about that than pretend otherwise.

Not affiliated

Civils Notes is not affiliated with the UPSC, or with any author, publisher, or coaching institute whose books we reference. Reference-book names are provided purely as a study aid, to tell you where a concept lives in the material you may already own, not as an endorsement, partnership, or affiliate arrangement of any kind.
